The IBA processing plant
The MRF at Whitecleave Quarry will process Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste and help to divert the majority of it from landfill. This makes Gilpin Demolition’s construction and demolition business in South West Devon more sustainable.
C&D waste contains concrete, bricks, tiles, ceramics, gypsum-based materials, wood, glass, plastic, asphalt, metals and soil. Gilpin Demolition would process up to 25,000 tonnes a year of this waste in the MRF and would expect to divert up to 80% of this from landfill.
The process is quite simple and consists of a conveyor belt on which the waste is loaded, plus a handpicking line where all the different materials are sorted. The sorted materials will then be sold to other businesses that can re-use them.
