Caring about the environment
For the development of Whitecleave Quarry, MVV and Gilpin Demolition have assessed, and are aiming to minimise, the effect the proposals will have on the local environment.
An Environmental Statement, consisting of a number of studies and surveys, will be a key part of the planning application that we will submit. In 2010, MVV started to carry out various extensive studies to make sure that any possible harmful effects from the construction and operation of the facilities will be minimised and dealt with in a responsible way.
Output of IBA from the Devonport EfW plant will range from 57,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) to a maximum of 65,000 tpa. Additionally, Gilpin Demolition estimates another 25,000 tpa of Construction & Demolition waste will be treated at Whitecleave Quarry.
Together, these amounts of material would require an average of 53 two-way daily trips by HGVs when the site is fully operational. The traffic study indicates that the increase in HGVs on the B3380 Plymouth Road between A38 interchange underbridge and Strode Road junction amounts to an average of 5 per hour resulting from the proposed development.
This is far less than the amount of traffic during the previous operations of Hanson Aggregates.
