| The Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) |
The MRF at Whitecleave Quarry will process demolition waste and help to divert the majority of it from landfill. This makes Gilpin Demolition’s business in South West Devon more sustainable.
Demolition waste contains concrete, bricks, tiles, ceramics, gypsum-based materials, wood, glass, plastic, asphalt, metals and soil. Gilpin Demolition would process up to 25,000 tonnes a year of this waste in the MRF and would expect to divert up to 80% of this from landfill.
The process is quite simple and consists of a conveyor belt on which the waste is loaded, plus a handpicking line where all the different materials are sorted. The sorted materials will then be sold to other businesses that can re-use them.
